Day 1: A friendly MayaSites driver will welcome you at the Cancun airport and you'll have private transport to Akumal, a small beachside community 1.25 hours south of Cancun. Your hotel will be the Hotel Akumal Caribe, located on Turtle Bay. Akumal has world class snorkeling and diving right from your beachside hotel and nearby protected lagoons. In the summer months the turtles come to the beaches to lay their eggs and you can swim side by side with these majestic and gentle creatures of the sea. The restaurants here can satisfy the pickiest of eaters and both kids and parents love the wide variety of international choices. The hotel caters to families and is in a safe and private compound. Bungalows are air-conditioned and have mini-fridges and bottled water. Day 2 & 3: These are free days for optional activities. Swimming, snorkeling, diving, shopping, visit to nearby eco-parks, bird and people-watching and live music are just some of the many options. Or ...... just relax in a beach chair! Day 4: This morning you visit spectacular Tulum. This site, perched atop cliffs overlooking the blue Caribbean, is the most visited of the ancient Mayan archaeological sites. Graceful and elegant Mayan temples and art adorn this place blessed with incredible natural beauty. Turquoise waters lap onto pristine white sand while enigmatic iguanas accept tokens of fruit from curious tourists. Every angle is a photographer´s dream come true. After your guided tour take time to visit the beach below, so beautiful it is almost surreal. It´s easy to imagine the ancient Maya landing here with their canoes filled with trade goods. For shoppers there is a market where you can browse local Mayan art and textiles. After seeing Tulum´s natural beauty you´ll know why it is treasured throughout the world. Then youŽll go inland to the jungle ruins at Coba, where you'll have lunch before your guided visit. You may explore these extensive ruins by foot, bicycle or human-powered tricycle. Coba is situated in a lush natural setting filled with many species of animals, birds and butterflies and is a real nature lover´s delight. It is also home to the tallest Mayan pyramid in the Yucatan. From its top you can see above the jungle canopy for miles in each direction. In the late afternoon you travel to Chichen Itza. Your hotel for the night is Villas Arqueologicas Chichen Itza which is adjacent to the ruins, and located on lovely grounds in a jungle setting with pool, excellent restaurant and bar. In the evening you may attend the entertaining light and sound show at the ruins. Day 5: This morning you visit the most majestic of Mayan ruins -- Chichen Itza. This is, without a doubt, the most famous Maya archaeological site. With its careful preservation, powerful frescoes and grand pyramid, Chichen Itza is sure to impress you. Both the Old City and its newer structures attest to its tremendous political influence in the Terminal and Post Classic Maya world. In the afternoon you have a choice of activities: visit the ruins at nearby Ek Balam, swim in a cenote (naturally filtered limestone pool) or visit the Balankanche caves. On your way back to the coast you can stop in the lovely colonial city of Valladolid. This is a Mayan city with an important history and you'll have time to shop in the plaza, where authentic Mayan goods are sold. At the end of the day you return to Hotel Akumal Caribe, where you'll spend the next 3 nights. Day 6 & 7: These are free days to relax, shop, swim, snorkel, visit an eco-park or other activities. Overnights at Hotel Akumal Caribe. Day 8: Private transport to the Cancun airport for departure. |
