GETTING TO AND FROM PALENQUE: Palenque is located in Chiapas, Mexico.  Drive time is 2 hours from the Villahermosa airport, 6 hours from Merida, 5 hours from San Cristobal de las Casas, 2.5 hours from Bonampak and Yaxchilan, 3 hours from Tonina.

There are no commercial flights into the Palenque airport but there are a number of ways to get to Palenque. The closest airport to Palenque is in Villahermosa (2 hours away by car). -- Fly into Villahermosa and take a taxi to Palenque (around $100), or if you're joining a MayaSites tour you will be met by a MayaSites driver at the Villahermosa airport and transferred to Palenque. United Airlines has non-stop flights from Houston and there are several non-stop flights a day from Mexico City to Villahermosa on Aeromexico. -- Fly into Cancun, take a 1 hour non-stop flight to Villahermosa on Vivaaerobus.  Flights only run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but cost is really low -- as little as $150 roundtrip.  From the Villahermosa airport you can take a taxi to Palenque (around $100) or take a taxi to the bus station in downtown Villahermosa (around $25) and from there take a 2nd class bus to Palenque (around $10). --- Fly into Cancun and take an overnight 2nd class bus to Palenque, about a 14 hour ride and costs around $45.  Or, take a very comfortable overnight 1st class bus, about a 12.5 hour ride and costs around $75. -- From Tikal (Guatemala) you can get to Palenque by land and boat. Travel either by public bus or private car to the Mexico border, take a fun long boat ride across the river and then go by land to Palenque. If done by private car or van the trip takes around 7 hours.
